Program Services:
- Medical Care Clinics held Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday serve patients with complex health problems and acute medical needs.
- General Medical Clinic held Wednesday evenings offers both acute and chronic outpatient care
- Specialty Clinics include gynecology, nephrology, gastroenterology, cardiology, rheumatology, and mental health
- Licensed pharmacy services provided Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and Wednesday evenings
- Medication Assistance Program (MAP) provides access to free medications from drug manufacturers
- Dental Clinic held each first and third Tuesday evening for extractions and referrals to the HR Dental Clinic.
- GAP offers referrals to stable patients for follow-up visits within their own community when available
- Other services include patient education, case management, medical lab, mental health services, nursing assessment, and nutrition counseling.
Patients Served:
- Priority given to uninsured working persons whose income is under 200% of federal poverty level; patients also include those on or seeking disability.
- 11,067 patient visits in 2009; 1,112 individuals served (5% increase from 2008)
- 25,060 prescriptions filled with an annual value of $2,145,770. Patients have the opportunity to donate $3.00 per prescription capped at $15.00, which totaled $20,073 in gifts in 2009
In-Kind Support:
- Rockingham Memorial Hospital provides a variety of services including lab testing and supplies, plain X-rays, ultra sounds, nuclear medical screens, CT scans, MRIs, screening and diagnostic mammograms, cardiology services, respiratory therapy, ABG’s, EKG’s, ambulatory surgery center, endoscopy suite, treatment room, pain clinic, and physical therapy. Annual value totals $675,061
- Harrisonburg Cytology provides pap smear testing and supplies; annual value of at least $9,550 (2008)
- Rockingham Radiology services – annual value of $18,133
- Harrisonburg Medical Associates – annual value of $25,980
- Springbrook Family Medicine – annual value of $5,525
- Referrals to area specialists such as podiatry, ophthalmology, ENT, Pulmonary, Urology, orthopedics, GI, OB-GYN and others- annual value at least $146,652

- 529 Patients from Harrisonburg (47.5%), 583 Patients from Rockingham County (52.5%)
Volunteer Services:
- In-house volunteers provided 15,744 (6% increase in 2009) hours of volunteer time at a value of $456,270.50.
- The number of volunteers decreased to 272 (4% reduction in 2009).
- The Free Clinic operates primarily with community volunteers and serves as a learning lab for local students. A variety of volunteer jobs and flexible time schedules are available.
Budget:
- Operating expenses for 2009 were $658,794 (unaudited). Eighty-five percent of funding is secured locally.
- Funding sources include individuals, businesses and corporations, foundations, special events, faith-based organizations, civic and service groups, local governments and United Way.
- Virginia Association of Free Clinics Grants provided $84,832.
Value of Services:
- Approximately $4.1 Million worth of services were provided in 2009 including primary care visits, specialty care visits, diagnostic services, dental extractions, surgery, and prescription medications.
- For every dollar that is expended, at least $6.30 worth of direct health care is provided.
- It cost the Free Clinic $50 per month or $600 per year to provide primary health services for one patient
